Smart Vending Machine Error Message Reveals Secret Facial Recognition Database

Connected, M&M-branded vending machines on the University of Waterloo campus began displaying an error message that revealed they were using facial recognition data to display ads. This lead to complaints from the student body.

A spokesperson for the university claims the machines are in compliance with the European Union's General Data Protection Regulation (the strongest data privacy law on record).
